Kawaii (cute) Vulpix Pokémon Cake

With many having to deal with social distancing measures in place, our birthdays are a more intimate affair now. Big birthday parties are not really a viable option. But birthdays can still be an exciting affair, especially when there is an EXTRA special cake to look forward to! Memorable photos taken, will undoubtedly become treasured keepsakes for life!

When I asked my daughter, Thea, what sort of design she wanted for her birthday cake, she excitedly said,“A Vulpix cake!” I noticed from her quick response and eagerness in her voice, she has already put some thought into it! 😆

Pokémon has been popular even back when I was a little kid. Seeing how it’s still so popular now with my kids, tells me, Pokémon and all the many imaginative creatures and characters are here to stay for generations to come!

So, now that the character has been decided, I set about thinking of the actual design of the cake. Thea wanted to be ‘surprised’ by what I would come up with, but as I didn’t have a party to feed, I didn’t want my cake to be huge but yet needed the cake design to ‘Wow!’. As my specialties are in gravity defying cute Chibi 3D cakes (which NEVER fails to wow!), that was what I decided to do. One challenge I had was the Vulpix’s tail. I wasn’t sure how it’s big bushy tail was going to hold up on its teeny body. However, it didn’t turn out to be a problem at all, as I realised the baby Vulpix was sitting on its ‘bum’ and all I needed to do was balance its tail on the cake board. Happy me!!

Another thing I was really happy about was my handcrafted chocolate Pokeballs! As pink is Thea’s favourite colour, I obviously had to make the Pokeballs pink!

With an ultra Cute Baby Vulpix surrounded by pink Pokeballs joining our small intimate family birthday celebration, I have one VERY happy birthday girl!!
