Love green. Hate waste.
Firstly, I must apologise for not updating my blog for well over a year! My last post was in March 2021!😳 What can I say….I’m a baker not a writer.😬 However, having said that, I find myself enjoying this process of putting my thoughts down and remembering the highlights of what has happened during the year. What’s more, the beauty of this process seems to bring about a heightened sense of awareness for all I have. I am bursting with pride and filled with so much gratitude to all my lovely customers who have been so supportive and appreciative of my efforts in crafting their cake orders! I only wish I had more time and ability to write! ☺️
I may be slightly hazy with some details from more than a year ago, but one thing’s for sure! My little business has certainly grown in demand despite the pandemic and cake sales and requests have continued to increase (grateful for all your recommendations) to the point that I have to sadly turn away customers each week. So here’s the second thing I have to do (or say)!
A massive THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!🥰
Now, onto the main subject of this blog post! What I’ve been up to this past year since my last post:
In 2021, COP26 was held in Glasgow (31st Oct-12th Nov) and during the time leading up to it, there were lots of media emphasis on climate change and on how we can reduce waste and save the earth.
I for one have always hated wasting food. I was brought up to appreciate the food we have and to make sure that none of it goes to waste. That’s why at Pretty Party Cakes, I only do small batch baking and bake to order. Not only does this ensure that all my cakes are at their freshest, it also prevents any wastage. I am happy to report that ALL my cakes end up in happy tummies, so no waste on that end either!😄😋
I also believe in recycling and refuse to use any cling wrap to cover my cakes. Instead, (hack alert) I recycle my cereal boxes and use them as height extenders for all my tall cakes.
Being challenged and inspired to do even more to help our planet, I decided to buy reusable cake boards for my regular customers. These boards can be washed and reused numerous times and has special led light effects which makes my cakes stand out! So a win-win!
I’ve also sought to buy compostable ‘plastic’ containers for my make-your-own cookies/brownies.
These are little changes that I think will go a long way if each individual plays a little part in helping the planet. So let’s continue to be mindful and try to reuse and recycle as much as possible!
From my previous post, while under Covid restrictions, I am reminded to look forward to better days of fewer restrictions when I saw signs of Springtime blossoming all around me.
As I’m a ‘glass half full’ kind of person, I tend to appreciate whatever I have rather than focus on what I don’t have. Video calling is great, however, not being able to visit family for more than 3 years has made me YEARN to visit them. Sure enough, at long last, rules changed in April 2022, better days finally arrived as travel restrictions were lifted and its no longer required to quarantine and test.
And what joy! When we finally met up with all our family, one of whom we are meeting for the first time! 🤩
4 generations all gathered together, commemorating this happy reunion!
